I really appreciate your face, Kevin Connauton
Hi! I’m currently applying to physical therapy school (doctor of physical therapy, DPT, is a 3-year program after getting a bachelor’s degree).
To be an athletic trainer, you need a bachelor’s degree and then the certification. Most get a master’s (1-2 years post bachelor’s degree) too now to be more competitive.
Everyone (literally, think about all the sports in existence + their fans who go into this field) wants to go into physical therapy, athletic training, personal training, etc. to work for a sports team, but the odds are not in your favor.
PT’s have told me that if you do somehow get lucky and blessed enough to work for a sports team, that won’t be your only job. You’d be the team’s PT/AT/etc. on call whenever they need you, but you’d also have a regular job in a clinic/etc.
